Trip Idea: Ride Sidney's Canal Feeder Trail Into Downtown Sidney 🚲

This easy, beautifully shaded trail begins along the towpath of the former Sidney Feeder Canal and later runs parallel to the Great Miami River. This 4 mile paved trail is great for both walking and bicycling year round and offers scenic views of both the Great Miami River valley and adjacent wooded landscapes.

In the 1840s, the Sidney Feeder Canal was built to move river water at a higher elevation to serve the four Lockington Canal Locks. It also provided the City of Sidney and Port Jefferson with canal boat access to transport goods and materials.

Since 2007, this trail project has been underway with a very important goal: To connect all of Sidney to the rest of the Great Miami River Recreation Trail, the backbone of the largest paved trail system in the United States.
