History of Piqua
Piqua, Ohio, founded around 1793 near Native American Shawnee villages on the Great Miami River, evolved from a frontier fort into a19th-century canal town and industrial hub. Originally named Washington in 1807, it adopted its current name in 1816. It grew via the Miami and Erie Canal, railroads, and briefly operated the nation's first municipal nuclear power plant.
